I caught up with Max from Platinum Custom Cars at the 2026 Detroit Autorama to get the story behind this incredible 1961 Pontiac Bonneville. This isn't just a cruiser; it’s a high-end build that perfectly balances classic Pontiac heritage with modern "big-inch" performance.
The first thing that hits you is the color—a sophisticated titanium finish that makes the iconic '61 body lines pop. Step inside, and you’ll find a world-class, custom brown leather interior that screams luxury.
One of the most impressive details on this car is the wheel choice. Platinum Custom Cars designed one-off, custom wheels that pay homage to the legendary Pontiac 8-lug wheels of the 60s. To give it that aggressive, modern rake, they went with a staggered setup: 18" in the front and 20" in the rear.
Under the hood, they kept it "all Pontiac" but with a major upgrade. It’s a cleanly installed Pontiac 400 that has been stroked out to a 462 cubic inch beast. With a full suspension and brake overhaul, this Bonneville is built to handle the power.
Max gives us the lowdown on what it took to bring this vision to life. Check it out!
